Nicky Hayden believes Ducati’s GP12 will be competitive to help the American and team-mate Valentino Rossi become consistent podium contenders in the 2012 MotoGP world championship.
Ducati is looking to bounce back from a disastrous 2011 campaign that saw Hayden and Rossi collect just one rostrum apiece on the GP11 Desmosedici.
Hayden and Rossi officially unveiled the new GP12 contender during an internet launch on Facebook yesterday (Monday) ahead of this weekend’s final MotoGP pre-season test at the Jerez circuit in Spain.
And Hayden told MCN prior to the launch that he trusts Ducati has got it right with the new bike, which features a conventional twin spar aluminium frame and revised engine position to help solve a persistent vague front-end feeling that was such a hindrance in 2011....more

The two 'boyfriends', as Filippo Preziosi defined them, are happy with the makeover their girl, the Ducati GP12, received recently. "It's beautiful - Valentino Rossi remarked with a smile - you get a special feeling while looking at it, particularly if you are Italian. It's a bike that demands respect."
But looks aren't everything, especially in the world of GP racing where results are all that really matter: "The first Sepang test went very well. I was immediately confident on the bike, and I was happy. We got a lot of work done, even if there are still some problems with the rear end, on corner exit. We tried to resolve them during the second Sepang test, but we couldn't fully do it, so it went a little worse than the first outing."
Valentino remains optimistic, and realistic, about the season ahead: "We still have many things to test, and more will arrive during the season. Our objective is to improve constantly, race after race, which we didn't manage to do last season. But the new bike helps us make faster adjustments and modifications, and this is important with practice sessions of just 45 minutes each."
Teammate Nicky Hayden was also enthusiastic about the new project, and he displayed even more of a fighting spirit: "Are we aiming for the podium? Of course we are, otherwise we might as well go home now. I have a top team and the new bike is an improvement compared to last year's, so I'm really for the challenge. I like the new Desmosedici a lot, and it has changed significantly, from the chassis to the electronics."
Once the presentation was over, Vale and Nicky were free to post messages of their new bike on Twitter. "It's a fun way of communicating - Rossi admitted - you can give your fans a glimpse of your everyday life." Hayden was quick to give a warning, however: "It can also be dangerous. One time I posted a picture that I shouldn't have, from inside the race shop, and luckily they didn't fire me."

Ducati, in partnership with Italian telecommunications company TIM, presented their 2012 bike today in an online launch for a reported audience of 96,000 fans and media around the world. Much excitement had surrounded the launch of the new livery, the color scheme feature a lot more white than in previous years. A hint to that effect had been seen in the new team gear sported by Ducati staff at the Sepang tests, which also had a lot more white than last year's all-red clothing.
Despite the fact that normally, not much of substance is revealed at bike launches, Ducati's was a little different. Ducati Corse boss Filippo Preziosi finally came clean on two questions which had had the paddock most intrigued: what was the angle of the Ducati's engine, and had Ducati gone with the maximum capacity allowed. Preziosi confirmed that the bike was indeed still a V90° engine, as most informed sources had suspected, but he still had a surprise up his sleeve. The bike, Preziosi said, used the maximum capacity allowed at 999cc, and was not, as had been suggested by some, somewhere between 900 and 930cc. Given the disadvantages of a higher-revving engine (losses due to friction) this is less of a surprise, though there had been much speculation that a smaller engine would allow for more efficient combustion....more

My last article on the changes of the new GP12 we analyzed the various differences between GP12 and GP Zero, by deducting some details like the engine has been further rotated backward - doing the math, more or less than 45 degrees from the axis vertical shaft engine.
If before (ie with the GP11) we were approximately around 17/20 °, with the GP Zero the inclination is increased of at least 6 more degrees. The GP12 we arrived at a value of about 40-45 °. Let's see where these changes are deduced. If you remember the previous article ( "Positions" ), with the help of some pictures I had drawn showed the location of the discharge of the rear cylinder bank, albeit with some approximation, it is clear that certain movements are actually occurring.
I repeated more or less the same job with photos of GP12, always with reference to discharges in their current position.... more with lots of diagrams on link

THE internet has been awash with supposed details of the Ducati Desmosedici GP12 revealed by Karel Abraham's Cardion AB team – but most sites reporting this 'news' have failed to spot that this bikeisn'tthe same as the new Ducati that Rossi and Hayden will be campaigning this year.
While Cardion will be using a beam-framed, 1000cc Desmosedici, it's going to be the intermediate-specification 'GP0' test bike tested by Rossi, Hayden and Abraham last year. With Ducati claiming it's works 2012 Desmosedici is 90 percent new, and yet to reveal any details or pictures, it's unlikely to share more than a few general similarities with Abraham's satellite bike.

While Filippo Preziosi played his cards tantalizingly close to his chest at the Wrooom event, where Ducati launched their 2012 MotoGP challenger for the Marlboro Ducati factory team, satellite squad Cardion AB is being a lot more loose-lipped. Today, the team, which will be running Karel Abraham again in the MotoGP class, issued a press release full of some fascinating details about the satellite Ducati GP12 which Abraham will be racing this season.
According to the press release, the bike produces 250 horsepower, 15 hp up from the 800cc GP11 Abraham raced in 2011. Top speed is up also, from 340 km/h for the 800cc GP11 to 360 km/h (or nearly 235 mph) for the GP12. Both numbers are in the region expected, though numbers released through the factories tend to be intentionally inaccurate. Whether factory numbers are optimistic or pessimistic - and by how much - is left very much to the imagination of the reader...lots more on the link...

The security measures in place at Jerez were those usually reserved for very secretive events, including the debut of very valuable machinery that must be shielded from the public eye. Thus Ducati ensured that no images were captured from their first of a three day test session. Of course the object of desire was the new GP12, if it will be called that, taking it's first steps in the hands of Franco Battaini and Carlos Checa.
The plan, as announced at Wrooom, was to have Battaini carry out reliability testing, while Checa began gathering the first setup data. Whether or not this was the case is still unknown, and so fans face a longer wait to find out the details of the latest Ducati creation. Technical director Filippo Preziosi spoke of a complete redesign from last version of the bike, and although it will again feature an aluminum twin-spar frame, there is speculation that the engine could either be oriented differently, or feature an tighter V angle.
UPDATE - Checa was on track with the 2012 Superbike, and he tested an electronics package that - it is speculated - could end up on the initial Desmosedici setup. He then took to the track with the GPZero, to establish some parameters for comparison over the the next two days. The 2012 GP12 should be tested extensively during the second day with Battaini, who is charged with performing shakedown runs for both machines.
