As soon as the knowledge came through that Davide Giugliano would not be able to ride his Aruba.it – Ducati Superbike at the Australian round, the not-quite-serious idea passed through the paddock that Troy Bayliss would make a one-off wildcard comeback. Bayliss To Fill In For The Injured Davide GiuglianoIn a stunning turn of events that began with the unfortunate (expected) 90 day recovery period of Davide Giugliano who was injured at the Phillip Island SBK test on Monday, Troy Bayliss has been called on to fill in and start the season on the Aruba.it – Ducati Superbike Team He hasn’t ridden the Panigale since May of 2014 but it’s Phillip Island and it’s Troy so it’s crazy but it makes perfect sense and as a long time Ducati Ambassador the legions of Ducati fans that will be rooting for this is immeasurable. Danilo Petrucci has always been one of the most underrated riders in MotoGP. The Italian came into the class from Superstock, where he finished runner up in the Superstock 1000 class. Andrea Iannone reckons he’d have been ‘stupid’ to quit Ducati just when the Bologna factory is embarking on a radical re-design of its struggling Desmosedici machine.
The Italian has been promoted to Ducati’s official factory squad for this season after Cal Crutchlow’s shock U-turn to quit and join LCR Honda, just days after committing his future to a Desmosedici last summer.
