If you are an avid motorcycle enthusiast, then you will no doubt recognize, “The Da Vinci Racer,” motorcycle that we are listing for sale in our No Reserve Auction today. On August 28th, 2012, this motorcycle broke the 1000a-ag speed record at the, “Bonneville Salt Flats” by over 16 mph.“Leonardo Da Vinci” ……a man with unquenchable curiosity and a feverishly inventive personality is widely considered to be the most diversely talented person to ever have lived.
Carl and Mark from, “Super-Rat Motorcycles”, located in Bellingham, WA, worked tirelessly on, “The Da Vinci Racer” to create a work or art worthy of its namesake.
While this motorcycle may bear a resemblance to its Ducati relatives, I can assure that virtually every component on this bike is either highly modified or hand made.
If either Leonardo or the Ducati Factory were to try and build a competitive, “Land Speed Racer”, they would have a hard time competing with the one that Super-Rat has already assembled.

1998 Ducati 916 SPS with the 996 CC Motor
The Ducati 916 SPS was an Evolution of the legendary Ducati 916 and had an even punchier engine and a refined chassis. There were major updates to the Sport Production series for 1997 and the 916 SPS, still carrying the "916" title, featured a 996cc engine with new crankcases for World Superbike homologation. However there was more to the SPS than merely new crankcases and larger pistons, as 36mm inlet valves were used , together with new inlet and exhaust camshafts. The 916SPS for 1998 received not only the new graphics, but the lighter frame of the Corsa (thinner tubing and no longer constructed in AL450) and also new Showa forks to accept the revised front brake calipers.
Design of the Ducati 916 was a balance between function and form:
The single-sided swingarm was beautiful, but designed to make wheel changes faster during races
The underseat exhausts improve aerodynamic performance, and resultantly gave very clean lines.
Production Date:October of 1997

In the "here's something you don't see every day" department we just got this shared with us and thought it was worth passing on as a Ducati history lesson. During the VM period of Ducati company ownership, Ducati built auxiliarly motors and sold them to companies that used them in everything from lawn mowers to roto tillers, water pumps and more. So while it's a bit of a stretch, this really IS a Ducati powered machine...

Final Tally - Rossi fairing - $5250e ($6851.56 USD), Hayden fairing - $2810e ($3667.16 USD)
Raising a total of $9518.72 for Dynamo Camp, the first summer camp in Italy specifically for children with serious or chronic illnesses in post-hospitalization convalescence. The camp hosts children from 7 to 16 who live in Italy, although they plan to open the camp to children from other European nations as well in the future. Every year more than 10,000 young Italians contract serious and chronic illnesses. These children are forced to spend long periods in the hospital. The conditions of which not only oblige them to deal with fear, fatigue, and often side effects, but also limit their social life with children their own age. Dynamo Camp is the light at the end of the tunnel for these kids. Nice job Ducatista's!
