Soup :: Cat Fight! Rossi Rips Ducati Approach; Stoner Defends Boys From Bologna

Seven-time MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi made waves late last week when he told English media that Ducati never made substantial progress during his ill-fated two-year tenure with the team because team management didn't trust his criticism of the GP11 and GP12.

Casey Stoner set the standard for all MotoGP riders, says new Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it

MotoGP has lost a yardstick for the sport with the retirement of Casey Stoner, according to new factory Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso.

The Italian said the Australian dual world champion was one of the greatest innovators of the elite series.

Stoner retired last year after becoming disenchanted with the sport and is set to race V8 Supercars this year.

Stoner's Crew Heading Back to Italy?| Superbikeplanet.com

When Casey Stoner hangs up his helmet for the last time after the Grand Prix of Valencia on Nov. 11, his crew may have their tool boxes labeled with Italian shipping labels, heading to Bologna.

British media reported that Stoner's crew, led by Italian Cristian Gabbarini, may return to Ducati next season to turn wrenches for Italian Andrea Dovizioso. Gabbarini and Co. worked with Stoner during his Ducati tenure and then moved with him to Repsol Honda in 2011.

Ductalk editors note: This article is in Italian and the Google translation is coming up worse than usual but it's worth the work because it's about the difference in body language and how the bike reacts to Stoner's style like a sail boat spinnaker sail vs Rossi's style which is less in the wind.  The analysis is coming from a GP500 rider from 1978-1981, John Rolando. It's an interesting, plausible theory, for the whole thing click here:  http://www.gpone.com/index.php/201204116596/Rossi-e-Stoner-due-velisti-in-MotoGP.html

SuperbikePlanet | Stoner: I Wanted Carbon In 2008

The biggest story of this MotoGP off-season so far is Ducati's decision to scrap a carbon-fiber chassis for its MotoGP bike for a more traditional aluminum box frame for the GP12 machine.

By the end of 2011, Valentino Rossi was winless for the first time in 16 Grand Prix seasons and ready to throw the carbon-fiber GP11 chassis into the biggest dumpster in Bologna. It would have been a fitting farewell to Rossi's disappointing first season with Ducati.

So it's hard to believe that Rossi's predecessor in the top seat at Ducati Corse, reigning World Champion Casey Stoner, unsuccessfully begged Ducati to switch to a carbon-fiber model in 2008 even though Stoner won his first world title on the steel trellis-framed GP7 in 2007...more

TwoWheels | Valentino Rossi laughs off Casey Stoner's criticisms | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it

This video interview with Valentino Rossi posted by website Moto.it for Italian TV show Griglia di Partenza was filmed during the recent Ducati Wrooom event and no doubt will take the media rivalry between Rossi and Casey Stoner to another level of dissing in 2012, especially if Rossi should be competitive with the GP12.
Even if this interview is prior to Stoner’s interview with Motosprint, where he said that the Italian belittled his and Honda’s efforts, Rossi laughingly throws off any criticism from Stoner and continues to play his usual head games.
The interviewer Giovanni Zamagni tells Rossi that he received some criticism from several of his rivals, and asks if he was expecting it or not -especially from Stoner - and how he judges it....More

Storm In A Tea Cup: How A Recycled Interview Reignited The Rossi vs Stoner Wars | MotoMatters.com

There is no rivalry in MotoGP more bitter than that between Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner, more bitter even than the one between Wayne Rainey and Kevin Schwantz. It has been a constant element in their relationship since Stoner won his first MotoGP title in 2007 (ironically, Stoner named Rossi as one of his heroes on the t-shirt he wore to celebrate that championship), though hardly a surprise, as the two men are polar opposites in almost every respect, except for their prodigious talent. The rivalry has intensified over the years, stoked by a series of incidents (nicely outlined by the peerless Italian website GPOne.com recently), including the booing of Stoner by Rossi fans at Donington in 2008, the epic battle at Laguna Seca in 2008, and the war of words between the two in 2010, ahead of Rossi's move to Ducati....

FIM acknowledges reality, puts Stoner in league of his own

Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo and rising star Cal Crutchlow have all warmly welcomed the news that the FIM (Federation Internationale Motocyclisme) has moved quickly to acknowledge what MotoGP insiders have been whispering since pre-season tests: Casey Stoner is in a league of his own.

This morning, in Mies, Switzerland, FIM President Vito Ippolito announced that beginning with the next race in Le Mans, France in two weeks' time, Stoner (Kurri Kurri, NSW, Australia) will compete by himself, in a separate race in a separate class...The rest here: http://backmarker-bikewriter.blogspot.com/2012/05/fim-acknowledges-reality-puts-stoner-in.html

SuperbikePlanet | Stoner Pulls Psyche Job

Much like several Aussie World Champion predecessors, Casey Stoner rarely resists the chance to land a mental blow on his rivals through the media.

Last Saturday, Repsol trotted out its sponsored 2012 World Championship riders in a dog-and-pony show in Madrid (team intros in Spain actually do include horses). Reigning World Champion Stoner stepped into that opening to jab MotoGP rival Valentino Rossi and his troubles with Ducati during testing last week at Sepang.

"All the other Ducatis were faster than his during the test," Stoner said about Rossi. "He wasn't worried about a single fast lap, but he is the lead rider on the team, and he should be the fastest before complaining so much. He needs to figure out why the GP12 performed well in the first test, and poorly in the second ... but I honestly hope they can turn things around, as it would be good for the entire championship."...more

GPOne.com | "Stoner: The Ducati? No Improvement"

GPOne.com | "Stoner: The Ducati? No Improvement" | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it

(Translated from Italian)

With 2011 almost in the can, begins the countdown to the start of the 2012 season, which will be inaugurated by the test in Malaysia on January 31. On that date, the eyes will once again all about Rossi, as it happened a year ago. But if ten months ago had the curiosity to see the Doctor in red dress for the first time in just over 30 days will be to know if Valentino will be able to get out of the quicksand in which they are trapped throughout the sampled .

At Borgo Panigale engineers have not gone on vacation and that we will see in Sepang will be the "true" GP12, different from the first prototype took to the track in Valencia after the last race of the season . If it is true that you do not win the championship in the winter, it is undeniable that the values ‚Äč‚Äčembodied in the tests reflect those of the disastrous season and another year would be a nightmare that nobody wants to be faced.

Waiting to find the new creature by Filippo Preziosi, were the same colleagues Rossi to overreach on the competitiveness of the champion in 2012. Among his most avid supporters turned out, surprisingly, Jorge Lorenzo , which puts it unquestionably among the pretenders to the title . " Valentino can get back to winning at any time, has the talent and speed to do it "did not hesitate to affirm. On the other side of the fence however is Andrea Dovizioso, skeptical of a sudden miracle , " will improve the Ducati, but I do not think the point to play for the World . "

Stoner and Pedrosa have also said their feelings about the season of the Doctor, the only driver to be able to attract all the attention on himself, whether win or lose. Casey Stoner has not given up, in an interview with MCN to launch a little dig at his rival and chief mechanic Jeremy Burgess: " The reason this has not been a good season has a lot to do with Valentine and Jeremy and the criticisms that we had turned on the fact that we were not able to develop motion and that we would not know what to do. Certainly they are ten times more confused than we were on our way to go . In this season, although they had everything they wanted, did not improve anything. At the end we knew what path to follow, but we did not have the resources to do it, but now they have there but the are still going in the right direction . "

The Australian does not seem so amongst those who expect a fine start Rossi on top, while Dani Pedrosa , on pages Sport.es , proved to be much more diplomatic: " many have expressed their opinion on this topic and no one better than Rossi knows what happened, because it has adapted to the Ducati Stoner has been able to do. The first thing that comes to mind, without having tested the Ducati, is that after many years of riding Japanese bikes head Rossi was not ready for a change of this magnitude, so radical . "

The Spaniard seems to have hit a very important point, so that the next prototype Ducati will be the most "Japanese" of all the Desmosedici ever designed . The aluminum perimeter frame is the most obvious of revolutions made, but it is said that the hull does not conceal some other big news, motor in the first place. What is certain is that once again, the king and queen, from the media point of view, they will be the Championship, Red and Red, waiting to know if there will be two rulers with or without a crown .
