This weekend at Monza, Infront Motor Sports, WSB promoter and organizer, will roll out a party celebrating 25 Years of World Superbike: “25 exciting years”
It’s going to be a great weekend with photo opportunity’s at every turn. A large lineup of legendary world champions will be on hand that for us literally lead from the past, with Doug Polen on the 851 to the future, with Troy Bayliss’s development of the 1199 Panigale. For a Ducatisti, a photo of Doug Polen, Giancarlo Fallapa, Carl Fogerty, Troy Bayliss, and Carlos Checa – multi generations of Ducati champions responsible for a huge chunk of Ducati history (and retail sales) has likely never happened before. It’s going to be something really special to see.

You’re inextricably linked with Ducati, but what was the first one you ever rode or raced?
The first bike I ever raced on a track was a Ducati, back in the summer of ’83. It was my dad’s bike. He had a Formula 2 600cc thing. I rode that in club races with my orange novice’s jacket on. I did about ten races on it to get rid of my orange jacket.
When did you get back on a Ducati?
The next time I raced a Ducati was in ’92 and that started everything. That was an 888 we bought over the counter from a dealer in the UK. It was the best bike you could buy to go racing with at the time. I’d struggled the year before on the Honda RC30 because it was three years old by that point. The Yamaha and Kawasaki were good bikes [in ’92], but they needed to be converted from road bikes. You bought the Ducati ready to race, so I went for that and the rest is history. I beat a lot the factory bikes on a slower bike as a privateer, I won the World Superbike race at Donington and got a contract to ride for the factory for the ’93 season on their 888....more
One of the 2 machines that Carl won his 4th and final title on. Carl has won the most WSBK races and Championships. The bike was sold directly by Ducati at the end of the season and has only seen a couple of track day outings since being gone through by the factory. This is bike #1 , Carl has #2 and the Ducati Museum has a painted up RS. I have the original letter form Ducati certifying the bike and lots of High def pictures that I will be happy to provide to truly interested parties. The bike come with 1999 Ducati factory team book that revisits the season.The signed nose piece from a win on the #2 bike and the original unsigned nose piece. I have the list of events that the bike was used in and where he placed.
