Audi to use robots to service vehicles

Audi to use robots to service vehicles | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it

This is how it starts. First the Audi Robotic Telepresence (ART) system, then Skynet. Well, maybe there are a few steps in between, but the slope is indeed slippery. Audi announced its newest servicing technology, the ART robotic system on Tuesday; it will allow Audi technicians at Audi of America to virtually diagnose vehicles at Audi dealerships across the country.

Who Actually Owns Ducati? Lamborghini Paid €747 Million

Who Actually Owns Ducati? Lamborghini Paid €747 Million | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it

Audi AG has released its 2012 Interim Financial Report, and in it the German automaker has released some interesting details about its acquisition of Ducati Motor Holding. Confirming our report that the Audi Group has bought 100% of Ducati’s shares, Audi however discloses that it paid much less for the Italian motorcycle brand than was previously reported.
Disclosing a buying price of €747 million ($980 million at the exchange rate at the time of sale), perhaps the most interesting news in Audi’s report is that Ducati was actually bought by Lamborghini, making Ducati a subsidiary of the boutique Italian car-maker. This news would explain Ducati CEO Gabriele del Torchio’s appointment to the Lamborghini Board of Directors earlier last month.
While Lamborghini’s ownership of Ducati is more of a formality, as both brands are still controlled by the Audi Group (read: Audi itself), the move does have two important aspects: one symbolic and one pragmatic. First symbolically, Ducati remains under some guise of Italian control, which in nationalistic Europe still counts for something…as ridiculous as it sounds to the rest of us.

VW’s Audi Plans to Complete Ducati Purchase Later Today | Bloomberg.com

Audi AG, the world’s second-biggest maker of luxury cars, plans to complete the 860 million-euro ($1.06 billion) purchase of Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati Motor Holding SpA later today.

We expect the announcement this afternoon from our colleagues in Bologna,” the motorcycle maker’s headquarters city, said Juergen De Graeve, a spokesman at Ingolstadt, Germany-based Audi.
Ducati sold about 42,000 of its sporty, luxury motorcycles last year. Revenue at the maker of the Monster, Diavel and Superbike models amounted to 480 million euros in 2011. The company employs about 1,100 people.
Audi announced plans on April 18 for Ducati’s acquisition from Investindustrial Advisors SpA and was waiting for antitrust approval. After the deal’s completion, non-executive board members from Investindustrial will leave and be replaced by Audi managers, De Graeve said, reiterating earlier comments from July 10, when he said Audi Chief Executive Officer Rupert Stadler is likely to join the Ducati board.
Current Ducati managers “will stay on board and remain responsible for business operations,” De Graeve said today.

Wolfgang Dürheimer Interview: Joining Audi and the Future of Bentley and Bugatti | Car and Driver.com | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it

"I understand that (Audi CEO) Rupert Stadler expects me to take a close look at Ducati’s technologies."

In a few weeks, Bentley and Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer will be leaving for Ingolstadt, where he will head Audi’s research and development and lead the VW Group’s motorsports activities. At Audi, he will deal closely with motorcycle maker Ducati; a fitting job, as he earned his stripes at BMW’s motorcycle division before he became head of Porsche’s research and development. Two years ago, following a shakeup in VW Group management, he left for Crewe, England, to head Bentley and Bugatti. We recently sat down with Dürheimer to discuss the future of Bentley’s powertrains, the progress of the Bugatti Galibier, and his new responsibilities with Ducati and VW Group motorsports.

Audi Planning to Build Scooter Compact Minivan? | autos.msn.com

Audi Planning to Build Scooter Compact Minivan? | autos.msn.com | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it
With Audi's purchase of Italian motorcycle company Ducati in April for $1.1 billion, there just had to be something in it for the Germans.

Audi scooter, anyone?

Autocar magazine dropped by the new "Audi City" retail store in London this week and got a marketing director to go on record about the possibility of a 2-wheeled Audi. While it would be designed with Ducati's expertise, it wouldn't be a rebadge, the magazine said, but a lower-speed bike meant specifically for dense urban areas such as those in various parts of Asia. BMW, which has been building its own motorcycles for decades, is coming out with a city scooter for just that purpose.
