The biggest-ever World Ducati Week has just closed with 65,000 Ducati fans from all over the world enjoying four days of bikes and getting close to racing stars like Nicky Hayden, Troy Bayliss and Valentino Rossi.

Friday night’s track activity at World Ducati Week 2012 in Misano, Italy saw the incredible Drag Race by Tudor thrill the crowd as Ducati riders from the GP and World Superbike Championships battled onboard Ducati Diavels. MotoGP vs World Superbike but an ex-racer was the one who showed them all.

Ducati announced a record 65,000 fans attended its World Ducati Week 2012 celebration, with fans from around the world gathering in the Misano Circuit to celebrate the Italian brand.
The record crowd took in the entertainment including test rides, live music and feted Ducati’s MotoGP and World Superbike racers. One highlight was the drag race featuring some of Ducati’s current racers and retired WSBK Champion Troy Bayliss....More here

Always the star of WDW, as always the races take a back seat to the stunting at the finish. As always the hardest working man in motorsports went the extra mile (more like the extra 10 minutes) and wow'd the crowd. When was the last time (or ever) you heard the whole crowd chanting NICKY,NICKY,NICKY, when Vale was in the house? Well, if you had been there you would have been screaming it too.

If there is anything that defines Ducati these days, it’s Valentino Rossi. And this weekend, at the biggest Ducati celebration every held, he’s here and using his power for good. It’s difficult not to be star struck by him. One of the highest paid athletes in the world (20th to be exact) he casts his smile on an unsuspecting admirer and it’s like an alien spaceship power light. I watched him work a crowd of reporters and more importantly, one boy in a wheelchair and all you had to know about Valentino Rossi is that when he uses his power for good, it’s some powerful stuff. The joy radiating from that boy was really something to see. Rossi fans are a special breed, they believe he is special. I have always been a Rossi fan and will continue to be one in the future. He defines Italy for me in many ways and the crowds of patient fans, waiting, waiting, waiting for him is just part of the way this works....More here

The famous line in the old movie “Field Of Dreams” was “if you build it they will come” and it keeps running thru my head here today. Every time Ducati throws one of these World Ducati Week events it gets bigger and better. I should know, I haven’t missed one yet....More here

We come from all over. We speak different languages. We share one passion. Ducati is all we have in common and it’s everything. The obvious purpose of the World Presidents Meeting is to give the people who wave the flag the highest, a chance to live the dream. Ride Ducati’s in Italy, eat the food, experience the history and see the red,white and green glow that is Italy and it’s people. But what we take home, besides these memories is friendships, alliances, respect and camaraderie, with Ducati staff and other clubs. We hear stories of the price some have paid for their love of the brand (one President, who lives in a country that has become increasingly dangerous, was shot 4 times by thieves trying to steal his Ducati. He drove himself to the hospital, and now rides in a bulletproof vest). Maybe it’s not all so dramatic but these are the people that drive a car to the meet, with tents and boxes, so others can ride. For us, there is no explanation needed why we do it, if you have to ask, well, you probably wouldn’t understand.

By now we have established a pattern – early up, get the luggage to the truck, see what’s for breakfast and be on the bike and ready to ride by 8:45. Today’s route is one I know, in the opposite direction, from a past Motogiro d’Italia and we are looking forward to it’s complexity. The group seems to have settled in and the road marshals are outdoing themselves. At one point in the am one of them had somehow managed to collar two tractor trailers going in opposite directions and was letting the Ducati’s thread in between the two stopped trucks so we didn’t have to work to pass then on the road....More here
