If there's one lesson we can take from Sunday's race at Estoril, it's this: "I've always said we know Casey's the guy that's the fastest guy in the world. Maybe over the seasons he hasn't put the championships together, but by far he's the best guy in the world." Cal Crutchlow is not known for mincing his words, and his description of Casey Stoner pulls no punches. But given the fact that Stoner only managed to win the Portuguese round of MotoGP by a second and a bit, is that not a little exaggerated?
Here's what Stoner had to say about it, when I asked him if winning with the chatter he suffered - even on the TV screens the massive vibration front and rear was clearly visible - made him more confident about the level of his performance. "It gives me a lot more confidence. That's the thing, you know, with arm pump, with the chatter problem, I've been feeling like crap all week, and my body's not as good as I normally am, and we still managed to hang on, we still managed to be clearly faster than the others at the end of the race." Ducati's Valentino Rossi has identified he is losing most of his time in the final sector at Estoril and will work on it ahead of tomorrow's final MotoGP free practice and qualifying sessions at the Portugese track.
The Doctor is dropping four-tenths of a second on the run to the line but still managed to finish within a second of fastest man Casey Stoner using the a new setup gleaned from Nicky Hayden's data which he has deemed 'not so bad'
"The first day is not so bad because this morning with the half and half condition we were quite fast, me and Nicky. This afternoon the condition are more similar to the full dry even if two or three part of the track remain quite patchy and the practice was not so bad at the end especially because I am not very far from the top and in some section I am quite fast and very close to the top guys," said Rossi, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening....For more click on the headline link above

At Estoril he has to start from the finish. More precisely, from the last lap of the Jerez GP, a 1'41”047 which was Valentino Rossi's best time of the race. The basis will be Nicky Hayden's setup, which makes the bike "longer and lower, as opposed to my setup which was shorter and taller; to put it simply," Rossi explained. He then added, "Technically we are starting with the Jerez race setup, trying to adapt it to my riding style, and hoping to make the most of Friday and Saturday practice. We are hoping for good weather, but we won't change our work plan even if it's wet."

The Ducati Team has transferred to Portugal for the third round of the MotoGP World Championship, which will take place on Sunday at Circuito Estoril, a track that, despite being notable for having the slowest average speed on the Grand Prix calendar, also includes some very fast sections like Turn 5, which is taken at approximately 200 Km/h (125 mph).
In twelve premier-class races at the circuit, Valentino Rossi has won five times and scored some additional podium finishes, while Nicky Hayden’s best finish there was a fourth place in 2007. The team will remain at the track on Monday for a post-race test.

The Doctor will continue with Hayden's data and a riding-style change...
Ducati's Valentino Rossi will start Friday's first free practice session using the setup with which he raced at Jerez. It was gleaned from using team-mate Nicky Hayden's data and means that The Doctor will make good on his promise to modify his riding style to suit the GP12.
After going round the houses with settings and new frames since Valencia 2010, Rossi has now said he must ride the bike more like a Ducati, which means keeping the bike long, low and flat instead of having it pitching on the brakes as he had with Honda and Yamaha....
