Ducati Grandstands and Ducati Island at Laguna Seca WSBK

Ducati Grandstands and Ducati Island at Laguna Seca WSBK | Desmopro News | Scoop.it
Share your Ducati Passion in the Ducati Grandstand during the 2014 FIM Superbike World Championship at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca!

Nearly two decades ago, a group of avid Ducatisti rolled into Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the World Superbike Championship and staked their claim on what would later become known to all as Ducati Island. In these humble beginnings, the Island was void of fashion shows, DJs and rock bands, but rich with passionate Ducatista, their motorcycles and great racing.

For 2014, we will honor this great tradition as we return to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with the Tribuna Ducati ticket package. The 3-day weekend experience includes your spot in the Ducati Grandstand, a unique opportunity to ride your Ducati on this legendary track, a guided track walk, a commemorative Ducati gift package, gear check and of course… your parking spot on Ducati Island.

Make sure you ride your Ducati this year as we will be hosting “Ducati Concorso,” a bike show where anyone who has parked on the Island is invited to join in on the fun. The categories for the competition will include the following:

• Best Modified
• Best Monster
• Best Superbike
• Best Road Warrior
• Best Retro
• Passion Award
• Bella Award
• Best in Show

We can’t wait to see you there as we come together to cheer on Davide Giugliano and Chaz Davies in their quest to victory! Forza Ducati!

Davide Giugliano and the Ducati Superbike team made a very promising start to the 2014 Superbike World Championship today at Phillip Island, closing both races inside the top five, a very encouraging result coming at the end of a positive weekend. Chaz Davies closed the races in seventh and eighth position.

Davide Giugliano - Ducati Superbike Team #34
“In race 1 I was quite relaxed. I managed to lap fast by only riding at about 70%, saving that extra 30% for the end of the race but unfortunately the grip became an issue maybe five or six from the end. In the second race, I immediately realised that conditions were warmer than the first and so I tried to limit the damage by holding back a little. Then later I started to push and was catching those ahead of me – I think I could have battled for the podium if the race had gone full distance but unfortunately they stopped the race after 14 laps. Anyway, overall it’s been a great weekend. We’ve shown that, as far as the chassis and my riding is concerned, that we’ve arrived. We were consistently fast throughout the weekend and this gives us confidence for the next races. Today’s results are very encouraging for me, for the team and for Ducati.”

Chaz Davies - Ducati Superbike Team #7
“I am a little disappointed in terms of race results. In race one we had a rear tyre issue and I gradually lost grip from maybe the mid-race point. Race 2 was a little better, I was hanging in there with the front group, managing to edge my way up through the field to about fifth. Then at about lap 10 I felt like I lost power and so I slowed down because I didn’t know what was happening. It was a shame as I think we were in for a better result in race 2. I felt more comfortable, with the team having made some changes between the first and second races. Anyway, there are positives to take away from the weekend. Solid points in each race for example – it’s the first time I’ve scored points in both Superbike races at Phillip Island. I also made the fastest lap of race one. But I know we’re capable of more, everyone’s working hard and the bike is feeling good. Roll on Aragon.”

Ernesto Marinelli - Ducati Superbike Project Director
“As often happens at this track, the stresses on the rear tyre somewhat conditioned our races today, but we nevertheless brought home important points. Davide’s two fourth place finishes, coming at the end of a weekend in which he was consistently among the frontrunners, and Chaz’s lap record in race 1 confirm that their talent combined with the potential of our Panigale allows us to fight for the positions that count. I’m very pleased with the work of our entire team and I want to thank the guys in Ducati Corse in Bologna who, with hard work and determination, are moving the development of this project forward.”

The Breakup is Official – Now What? | Vicki's View Blog on Ducati.net

After weeks of rumors, Ducati and Alstare have terminated the partnership.  Factors cited include the global economic downturn, standard code for loss of a main sponsor and lack of money momentum going into 2014.  But the relationship with Francis Batta has been rocky for some time. The 2013 SBK season was the worst in Ducati’s history – Ducati for the first time failing to win a race. The team was riddled with rider injuries and and the fundamental issues of where to lay the blame – was it the bike or was it the riders – reported to be an ongoing disagreement with Ducati management.  Despite reported efforts to reconcile, the relationship was terminated early by “common agreement”.
So what happens now?

Ducati 1199 Panigale Gets Clean Slate for Weight in WSBK | asphaltandrubber.com

Ducati 1199 Panigale Gets Clean Slate for Weight in WSBK | asphaltandrubber.com | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

World Superbike is expected to announce after the Magny-Cours round next week that the Ducati 1199 Panigale will not incur the same 6kg weight ballast penalty as the current Ducati 1098R Superbike. A part of WSBK’s fluidic formula for Superbike racing, World Superbike rules allow for the air intake to be restricted and weight ballast to be added to twin-cylinder motorcycles on an prescribed basis, to compensate for the 200cc displacement capacity advantage the twins have over the four-cylinder machines.

When Ducati's Were Red. Laguna Seca Ducati Island Turns 19

By Vicki Smith

Near as I can figure, Ducati Island Laguna Seca turns 19 this year so when I found these old photos I thought they were worth sharing. There is, of course, a back story:

That little piece of land now known world wide as Ducati Island was originally under contract to another company. We heard a rumor the space might come available so my business partners and I made a deal with the track and rented it on a multi-year contract. The inspiration? ...

Ducati Superbike Team: The plan comes together | Vicki's View Blog

Ducati Superbike Team: The plan comes together | Vicki's View Blog | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

Ducati Corse announced today it has re-affiliated with Feel Racing, an experienced team that has achieved many victories in the past for Ducati.  There is also a significant big difference here from last year,  this team is once again “official”, an important status in SBK that comes with perks not offered non-official teams.  In addition, they will once again be based inside the racing department in Borgo Panigale.

Much of what is new here is actually “old again” with the team structure reuniting many of Ducati’s best from the past...

Carlos Checa has given the brand-new Ducati 1199R a perfect qualifying debut by claiming pole position for the opening round of the 2013 World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island.

A tenth career pole position for the man that has won four of the last five WSBK races to be held at the Australian venue, Checa would save his best until last as he swept to the top of the standings with his final lap...

Bridgepoint Announces MotoGP And World Superbike Series To Be "Brought Together" | MotoMatters.com

Bridgepoint, the venture capital organization has today announced that it has brought MotoGP and World Superbike, the two motorcycle racing series it owns, under a single umbrella organization. The reorganization will see Dorna Sports become the parent organization for both series, though Infront will operate as an independent entity and continue to organize World Superbike under its own banner. Infront has also been named as "marketing advisor and global advisor" for both MotoGP and WSBK.

The implications of this announcement are huge, but not immediately clear. The logic behind the move is impeccable: the two series are spending too much of their time competing against each other instead of working together to promote the sport of motorcycle racing. By combining their marketing efforts, the hope is that both series will be made stronger.

CHECA RETURNS TO THE PODIUM AT PORTIMAO

CHECA RETURNS TO THE PODIUM AT PORTIMAO | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

Another complicated race day for the Althea Racing team today at the ‘Autodromo Internacional do Algarve’.

In race 1 Carlos Checa rode a great race to take his first podium since Brno while Davide Giugliano was robbed of his chance to do well after a collision early on in the race forced him to retire. In the second of the day’s races Giugliano was once again unlucky, suffering from presumed tyre problems while Checa was able to bounce back after a technical issue in the early stages to cross the line fifth.
After two hot and sunny days the Superbike paddock awoke to heavy rain and poor visibility on the Portimao track. After only a fifteen minute warm-up, the riders had little time to prepare for racing in these conditions.

25 Years of Racing Entertainment – The ultimate Ducati/SBK fan photo opportunity | Ducati.net | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

This weekend at Monza, Infront Motor Sports, WSB promoter and organizer, will roll out a party celebrating 25 Years of World Superbike: “25 exciting years”

It’s going to be a great weekend with photo opportunity’s at every turn. A large lineup of legendary world champions will be on hand that for us literally lead from the past, with Doug Polen on the 851 to the future, with Troy Bayliss’s development of the 1199 Panigale. For a Ducatisti, a photo of Doug Polen, Giancarlo Fallapa, Carl Fogerty, Troy Bayliss, and Carlos Checa – multi generations of Ducati champions responsible for a huge chunk of Ducati history (and retail sales) has likely never happened before. It’s going to be something really special to see.
