Jerez: Checa debuts on GPZero

Jerez: Checa debuts on GPZero | Ductalk: What's Up In The World Of Ducati | Scoop.it
While Ducati are making do without Valentino Rossi, participating in the Monza Rally Show this weekend, and Nicky Hayden, recovering from his recent wrist surgery, the Italian factory has WSBK Champion Carlos Checa and regular test rider Franco Battaini in action on the GPZero. This is the first Desmosedici equipped with an twin-spar aluminum frame, and it will serve as the basis for next year's GP12.

Also making a debut was Colin Edwards on the Suter-BMW CRT for the first time. The Texan returns to the track to begin developing the NGM Forward Racing prototype for the MotoGP class next season, and also present is Colombian rider Yonny Hernandez aboard the BQR Team’s Kawasaki powered FTR machine.

Present for testing in the Moto2 category are teams Mobile NGM Forward Racing with team riders Alex de Angelis and Yuki Takahashi, Marc VDS Racing Team with riders Scott Redding (whose crash can be seen HERE) and Mika Kallio, the Aspar Team with Nico Terol and Toni Elías, Pons Racing with Pol Espargaró and Esteve Rabat, Tech 3 with Bradley Smith and Xavier Simeon and the Gresini Team with British rider Gino Rea.

Taking about his work on the Aspar machine was former Moto2 world champion, Toni Elias, who covered an impressive 104 laps on the day, the quickest a 1'44"21: "Considering how little time I've had with this new bike, it's a good result - the Spaniard said - After a year in MotoGP, I have to change my riding style again to adapt to this bike. The first impression was very good, though, and we are working in the right direction."

Slightly slower, with a best lap of 1'44"90, was his teammate and 125cc champion Nico Terol: "Slowly but surely I'm starting to understand my new bike - Terol revealed - the most important thing is to cover a lot of kilometers, but we have also modified the chassis slightly to get more traction, and we also tried a bigger fairing."

Sharing the track with the GP racers was BMW factory Superbike riders Marco Melandri and Leon Haslam. No official lap times are available, since it is a private test, but we will provide updates as soon as the come in.

No comment yet.
