Decisions on a few crucial proposed technical regulations, including standard electronic control units, were postponed last weekend at TT Assen, presumably to allow Dorna and the manufacturers to engage in more horse trading.
Factories are vehemently opposed to the idea of a standard ECU, saying it will eliminate a key area of work for their engineers and reduce development of technology that trickles down to road bikes. Dorna boss Carmelo Ezpeleta counters by saying standard ECU's will save teams money on development and also breed more competitive racing by reducing the gap between the have and have-not teams.
Ezpeleta has a valuable PR ally in his desire to make identical black boxes mandatory: Valentino Rossi.
