With DVT, Ducati’s 1198 Testastretta V-twin makes excellent torque and power.
When I interviewed CEO Claudio Domenicali about product plans for Ducati after the company was purchased by Audi, he surprised me by confirming that development work would intensify on the Testastretta family of eight-valve desmo engines. Back then, all the attention of the motorcycling world was focused on the new 1199, and Domenicali, a positive man, confirmed there was a lot more performance potential in that engine. He said there could be a substantial improvement in the quality of combustion throughout the rev range via better control of the turbulence in the intake charge at lower rpm.
