What Makes the Ducati 1199 Superleggera So Light?

What Makes the Ducati 1199 Superleggera So Light? | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it
A technical look at Ducati’s street-legal 1199 Superleggera sportbike.

Ducati’s 1199 Superleggera was awarded the Best Superbike title by Cycle World this year. No additional words are needed, right? Wrong. needed! Its 390-lb. “ready to ride” weight is fantastic for a fully dressed superbike with 200-plus horsepower. It really is the closest there is to a pure SBK racer in terms of power to weight. It’s the ultimate version of the Ducati 1199 Panigale, which, even in its base form, is a benchmark with regard to weight containment

2014 Misano MotoGP Preview: On Honda At A Yamaha Track, Ducati's Test Bonus, And The Redding And Crew Chief Merry-go-round

2014 Misano MotoGP Preview: On Honda At A Yamaha Track, Ducati's Test Bonus, And The Redding And Crew Chief Merry-go-round | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it

With Marc Marquez back to winning ways at Silverstone, the Misano round of MotoGP (or to give it its full name, the Gran Premio di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini) is the next venue to host the Marquez MotoGP record demolition steamroller. At Misano, Marquez can equal Mick Doohan's record of twelve wins in a single season, clearing the way for him to break that record at a following round.

What are the odds of him actually achieving that? Misano is a circuit where he has had a great deal of success, having won in 125s and both the Moto2 races he contested here. A mistake during last year's MotoGP race meant he lost ground on the leaders, though he recovered to finish in fourth. Going by his past record, Marquez is once again favorite to win.

Win Andrea Dovizioso’s race suit worn during the Indianapolis GP!

Win Andrea Dovizioso’s race suit worn during the Indianapolis GP! | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it

Win the jumpsuit worn by Andrea Dovizioso for the Indianapolis MotoGP on Augyst 10th 2014, autographed by Andrea himself and Valentino Rossi!

The jumpsuit worn by Andrea Dovizioso for the Indianapolis MotoGP on Augyst 10th 2014, autographed by Andrea himself and Valentino Rossi!

About the suit:

During the first laps of the race there was a jostle between Andrea Dovizioso and Valentino Rossi, because he surpassed Andrea a little too aggressively, and the wheel of the bike left a mark on the jumpsuit! Valentino immediately apologized and Andrea passed it off as a simple moment of contact during the race.

His statements following the heated race

“I can’t complain about the first fifteen laps” says the Forli racer “the first six were even exciting I was in front of Vale at some points, although I think that he wasn’t pushing his limits at that time, but I couldn’t overtake him because if I did we would’ve touched, however the Yamaha is able complete better curves. We would’ve touched. No, more like: I would’ve been in him”.

He did it in his place…

"Yes, first I felt a hit on my left knee, then the pressure continued on my thigh, until the point where the wheel reached my shoulder. You can say I kept him on the track, but I don’t want polemics: it was a simple contact during the race. I haven’t spoken to Valentino yet, but Ive been told he apologized on TV”.

Vicki Smith for Ducati.net's insight:

Your chance to own "the" suit with Rossi's tire track on it. What a great conversation piece for a great cause.

The Ladies of Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials 2014

The Ladies of Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials 2014 | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it
Many ladies attended the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed trials this year, including landspeed record holder Valerie Thompson, Loretta Flores, and so many more!

Photographer and motorcyclist Barbara Fuentes guest posts about her trip from Seattle, Washington to Wendover, Utah for the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials in September. “It started 100 years ago. Folks started trekking to Bonneville, Utah with their cars and motorcycles to go fast; record-breaking fast. Formally known as BUB, the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials is the premier motorcycle land speed racing event. Sanctioned by the AMA and FIM, this event gives you the opportunity to make National and World records. Several classes are available for entry- from small vintage bikes on up to streamliners. On Friday Aug. 22nd, I packed up my SUV and made my way down to Utah. The ride was pretty uneventful, save my car karaoke. I decided to go out to the Flats on Saturday morning. When I arrived, I came to the ‘boat launch,’ the tiny bit of land between the road and what looks like an expansive lake. Not deep, about 6 inches or so- but seemed to go on forever.

MotoGP Misano: Bridgestone at fault for crashes - Rossi

MotoGP Misano: Bridgestone at fault for crashes - Rossi | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it
The hard front wasn't getting up to temperature, he believes

Movistar Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi says Bridgestone’s hard compound wet tyres were at fault for the MotoGP free practice crash-fest at Misano today with the accident tally going into double figures and The Doctor himself going down this morning. Rossi crashed on the brakes with zero degress of lean angle and it was an accident replicated throughout the field. Andrea Iannone and Pol Espargaro had the same crash in turn one within second of each other, and Rossi said it is down to the tyres. - See more at: http://www.bikesportnews.com/news-detail.cfm?newstitle=MotoGP-Misano:-Bridgestone-at-fault-for-crashes---Rossi&newsid=12983#sthash.oihGY2UD.dpuf

SBK, Carlos Checa, what remains of the day | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it
After twenty years experiences in running precariously looking for an elusive limit, stop does not necessarily mean to cut ties with the past. Simply, it is an opportunity to interpret it in a different perspective. Like when you browse a photo album forgotten on a dusty shelf for some time. The colors of the images seem different, perhaps emerge details of which had not been noticed, but the outlines remain unchanged and well defined.

Davies expects Ducati to suit Jerez

Davies expects Ducati to suit Jerez | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it

Chaz Davies believes he can enjoy a strong WSBK race weekend at Jerez with the Ducati, even if he hasn't had the best of luck there previously.

Though he admits it isn't a circuit that has been kind to him in the past, Chaz Davies believes the flowing nature of the Jerez circuit will play to the strengths of his Ducati 1199 Panigale.

Returning to action after a lengthy summer break, Davies is hoping to get the final portion of his 2014 WSBK season off to a good start after a promising race weekend in Laguna Seca was scuppered by a race one crash that ruled him out of the second encounter too.

Luigi Dall’Igna (Ducati Corse General Manager) on Sunday's result:

“With Dovizioso’s second place in qualifying and fifth in the race, we are satisfied with the outcome of this weekend. To finish with a gap of less than ten seconds from the winner was one of our targets: today we did that and it’s an important result, which gives us more motivation to continue to work hard. We’re still not ready to fight for the win, but we are reducing the gap to the leaders at the end of the race. I’d like to thank the team and everyone working on this project in Ducati Corse, because they are always 100% committed: these improvements motivate us even more and help us to see that we are going in the right direction. Now it’s the turn of Misano, our second ‘home’ race, where we will again try and give some satisfaction to the Ducatisti and all of our fans.”
