Andrea Dovizioso admits Ducati Team is in need of significant changes in order to regain its competitiveness at the front of the field. After teammate Nicky Hayden crashed out of Sunday’s Catalan Grand Prix while running fifth, Dovizioso went on to finish seventh despite much attrition in front of him; he was also overtaken by Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Bradley Smith. “For sure, it was difficult for everybody, but for the Ducati riders it was really difficult to manage – especially the last six laps,” the Italian told motogp.com. “Our pace in the race was not good and this just confirms the situation we have. We have to work really hard and make a big change for the future – it’s not this chassis or the new chassis we will try (in Monday’s test). We have already tried and the difference is very small. It is not really what we need to reduce the gap to the faster bike, so we have to work really hard.” For the rest click HERE

First-class side trip from quiet Italian city takes visitors to see fast, shiny and expensive rides, including Ferraris and Lamborghinis
An area of Italy near Bologna is the birthplace of both Ferrari and Lamborghini sports cars, as well as the home of other high-end car and motorcycle makers like Pagani, Ducati and Maserati. The region Emilia-Romagna is also the home of tortellini, Bolognese sauce and Parmesan cheese, but that wasn't the purpose of this visit, which was all about cars - fast, shiny and expensive cars. On a recent trip to Italy, my son and I decided to take a tour of some of these facilities as a way to take a break from the churches and art, which I loved, but he only tolerated. I tried to research the logistics of visiting a couple of these factories and museums from home before we left, but found the idea of driving the unfamiliar Italian roads somewhat overwhelming. Thankfully, I came across the Motorstars Tours' website (motorstars.org), which offers day trips to a variety of these sites, with pickup in Bologna. For the rest click HERE

We get asked all the time how to tour the various factories when visiting the Motor Valley region. This tour seems like a good option. Delete the scoop?

Casey Stoner insists he has no plans to return to MotoGP action, saying he cannot envisage ever having the urge to compete in the sport again. The two-time world champion left MotoGP at the end of 2012 and is now competing in the Australian V8 Supercars Development Series with crack squad Triple Eight, although there has been speculation he could make a two-wheel comeback as a wildcard entry later in the season. Ducati has lately done an impressive job penetrating new market segments with sophisticated (and expensive) models like the Multistrada and Diavel. The Italian manufacturer’s next major growth strategy, however, will likely target the opposite end of the price and performance spectrum with a new generation of inexpensive and accessible Scramblers.

CW's cruiser comparison featuring the Ducati Diavel Dark vs. Moto Guzzi California 1400 Custom. All roads lead to Rome, or so the saying goes. Once literal (all roads in the ancient Empire actually did lead to Rome), the expression in popular culture reminds us that different paths can lead to a common goal. Just like the new Ducati Diavel Dark and Moto Guzzi California 1400 Custom. Two iconic Italian manufacturers, two unique power cruisers, one definitive result: Badassery. Despite the obvious apple-to-orange aesthetics, these two muscle bikes share more than bravado and Italian birthrights. Each offers a sophisticated ride-by-wire injection system with three ignition mapping modes, traction control and world-class Brembo brakes with ABS. And yes, they both use sizable Twins for propulsion, though each mill is situated in a distinctive manner. For the rest click HERE Delete the scoop?

Pierobon, a Bologna-based brand that has been creating motorcycle frames since 1952, has released some info on its latest creation, the F042 hstreet. Pierobon takes the same chassis technology it uses with MotoGP and World Superbike teams, and brings it to the street. Powering the F042 is Ducati 1100EVO engine, the same 95-horsewpower L-Twin found in the Monster 1100EVO. The rest is all dreamy Italian parts, including Termignoni exhaust parts, Brembo brakes and Marchesini wheels. Speaking of the F042 hstreet, Pierobon says: “The driving position is made more comfortable by the handlebars raised and aligned with the forks. Its natural habitat is the mountain roads where you can savor the stability and the accuracy in the curves.” For more on Pierobon, check out the company’s website at pierobonframes.com/en/ Pierobon F042 hstreet Specs: For the rest click HERE

Ducati Team concludes Barcelona post-race test With this past weekend’s Catalan Grand Prix behind them, the Ducati Team and most of the other MotoGP riders were back in action today for a one-day, IRTA-organized test at the Circuit de Catalunya. The team’s work schedule called for a continuation of the back-to-back comparisons between the bike that Andrea Dovizioso and Nicky Hayden have raced thus far, and the ‘laboratory’ version that has only been used in battle by Ducati Test Team rider Michele Pirro (at Jerez, Mugello, and Barcelona). Once again, Hayden was more comfortable on the Spanish track, as the American posted the second-best time of the day. His 1:41.955 lap was just five-hundredths off of Jorge Lorenzo, while Dovizioso finished fourth-best on the day with a time of 1:42.417. Delete the scoop?

In a Catalan Grand Prix that was marked by sweltering, slippery conditions that contributed to no fewer than ten riders failing to finish and several others taking off-track excursions, Ducati Team racer Andrea Dovizioso was forced to ride in defence mode on his way to seventh place aboard his Desmosedici GP13. Teammate Nicky Hayden, meanwhile, experienced a premature end to what had otherwise been a promising weekend, as he crashed out on the sixth lap. Having started from the ninth slot on the grid, Dovizioso was mired in the pack early on, and although he had some nice battles with Stefan Bradl and Bradley Smith, his bike lost grip as the race went on, forcing him to settle for seventh place. His American teammate lost a few positions just off the start but rode well as he made the passes to regain his fifth-place starting position. Unfortunately, a lap-six mistake on corner entry resulted in a race-ending fall. The Ducati Team will remain in Barcelona tomorrow for the post-race IRTA test.

Nicky Hayden matched the MotoGP™ top speed record during Friday’s opening practice session at the Circuit de Catalunya. Crossing the speed trap located towards the end of the start/finish straight, Hayden was clocked at 339.4km/h (210.8mph) which corresponded with the record set by Brazilian Alex Barros on a Repsol Honda Team bike in 2004. The Italian "miracle" didn’t happen: after having tried in every way to equip Dovizioso and Hayden with the 'lab' GP13 in time for the Barcelona GP, the official Ducati team had to give up for logistical problems (not enough time). Oddly enough, both racers don’t seem to be too disappointed. " The lap time at Mugello was similar, basically the same – Andrea Dovizioso said – The new bike has positives and negatives, but we can definitely say that it isn’t yet the step we need. We rode in 1'48 high constantly, which is a good pace, but without direct comparison with our rivals we may not know. We could take it to the Assen track but, if in the tests on Monday we go worse, this frame will be discarded".

Ben Spies has vowed to reward Ducati’s faith in him by returning to the form that at one time seemed destined to see him challenge for the MotoGP world championship.
The injury-ravaged Texan is unlikely to return to action until the Indianapolis round in mid-August while he continues the long and gruelling process of recovering from a severe right shoulder injury he suffered in a crash during a rain-hit Malaysian Grand Prix last October. - See more at: http://www.benspies.com/2013/06/14/ben-spies-vows-to-repay-ducati-faith/#sthash.p5fsNw0D.dpuf Delete the scoop?

The competitors for the 91st Pikes Peak International Hill Climb have just concluded a two-day tire test at the Colorado road course, and it should perhaps come as no surprise that our boy Carlin Dunne has posted the outright fastest lap for a motorcycle during the tire test (the Santa Barbara native set the outright two-wheeled course record last year on his Ducati Multistrada 1200 S). What is surprising about Carlin’s result at the tire test is that he was on the Lightning Motorcycles electric superbike. That’s right, the fastest bike so far for 2013′s Race to the Clouds is a 200+ hp electric superbike that is refueled with solar energy. Petrol heads, eat your heart out. American Ben Spies has not raced in the last three MotoGP events this season due to chest muscle problems and shoulder weakness caused by reconstructive shoulder surgery last October. The news might get worse for Elbowz: He may miss the next four races, too. Spies may not return to his Pramac Ducati until the Red Bull Indianapolis GP on Aug. 16-18.
