Duc Pond Motorsports and Horsepower Charities are raising money for a few great causes and we like the way they are thinking. The raffle is for a limited edition Bayliss 1098R, a bike so rare that they only produced 500 WORLDWIDE. And for those that aren’t familiar with the Bayliss 1098R, it was a proper tribute for a true champion, not a “sticker kit” bike – the 1098R Bayliss was the real deal with all the good bits and pieces, and it’s beautiful to boot.

After an unsuccessful detour with the heretical 999, Ducati designers put things solidly back on track with the 2007 1098. Though predictably less comfortable for everyday street duty than its immediate predecessor—goodbye adjustable seat, footpegs and steering geometry—the 1099cc Testastretta Evoluzione twin is shamelessly biased toward fast, twisty roads and even faster racetracks. Still, it’s a competent if vastly overqualified commuter if you can endure hard-nosed ergonomics enforced by a long reach to the bars and a high, hard seat.

Svitok joined by Bussolotti in SK Energy Team...

Tomáš Svitok from Slovakia will again line up on the starting-grid of the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup, but this year he won't be alone in his SK Energy Team as Marco Bussolotti of Italy, twice runner-up in the European Superstock 600 class, will be joining him on board the Ducati 1098R machines.

The two riders, both 21 years of age, have been carrying out their first three-day test at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain. The aim of the test was to refresh their skills after the winter break, get to know the new rider and mechanics and work on a basic set-up for the upcoming season that kicks off on April 1st at Imola....more

How do you improve on the Ducati 1098R? Nicola Martini describes his workshop as a “laboratory of ideas”. And right now, the Verona-based builder is pushing the visual envelope harder than almost anyone else on the custom scene. This is his latest bike, “Flash Back”—a fearless reworking of the Ducati 1098R. To some it will be sacrilegious, but to others, it will be thought-provoking. The design is dominated by the engine shrouds, which are becoming a trademark of Mr Martini’s specials—check his 2010 Triumph Thruxton “T-Type” for a similar design.
