Rossi Reflects on Disaster | MCN

Rossi reflects on ‘big disaster’ in Indianapolis Valentino Rossi probably can’t wait for November when he ends his Ducati nightmare after the Italian suffered a humiliating defeat at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway yesterday (Sunday).

Rossi was seventh but it was the manner of his defeat that left the 33-year-old deflated after he finished a massive 57 seconds behind race winner Dani Pedrosa in a race that provided only fleeting moments of entertainment for a crowd of just over 65,000 fans

Hayden knocked out of Grand Prix, Stoner in question | Indystar.com

Hayden out after crash, reigning champion Stoner in limbo too

A speed record fell Saturday in MotoGP qualifying at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

So did three marquee riders — all in slippery Turn 13.

The painful day saw series champion Nicky Hayden knocked out of Sunday’s Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix. Defending champion Casey Stoner and American Ben Spies also took big spills, with Spies likely to race and Stoner’s status unknown until Sunday morning.

MotoGP officials said Hayden was knocked unconscious; Stoner suffered a torn ankle ligament.

Hayden was concussed and suffered non-displaced fractures of the second and third metacarpals on his right hand.

Rossi Talks Yamaha, Stoner Talks Rossi | Cycle News

Rossi Talks Yamaha, Stoner Talks Rossi | Cycle News | Ductalk | Scoop.it

SPEEDWAY, IN, AUG 16 - Ducati Marlboro's Valentino Rossi was always going to be the center of attention at the pre-race news conference for the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix. But a widely circulated "interview" with world champion Casey Stoner (Repsol Honda) nearly stole the spotlight.

In an interview most widely seen on the website of England's Motorcycle News, Stoner was harsh in his criticism of both Rossi and crew chief Jeremy Burgess, and their inability to make the Ducati a proven race winner. Stoner didn't deny having made the comments, but he quickly pointed out that they weren't made en masse, as presented.

How to Stop Worrying and Love Motorcycle Racing | VICE.com

How to Stop Worrying and Love Motorcycle Racing | VICE.com | Ductalk | Scoop.it
MotoGP is 100 times more compelling and impressive than any type of four-wheeled racing, and it should be, if not a top-five sport, at least more popular than the goddamned NHL. Which it’s not.

The world famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway has a policy, possibly related to how world famous it is, against releasing official attendance figures for the events it hosts. Nevertheless, conventional wisdom has it that on Indy 500 day there’s an ass in every one of the 250,000 or so grandstand seats on the premises, plus a small city’s worth of revelers going HAM in the infield. The Indy is basically Woodstock (with a demographic that’s the opposite of Woodstock’s), and it happens every year. Google Image it. It’s pretty amazing, especially when you consider that, at this point in the continuing saga of the United States zeitgeist, the race—which, in terms of socioeconomic-strata- and region-spanning popularity, used to be something like what the Kentucky Derby also no longer is—retains about as much cultural cachet as New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.

On the other hand, at the Red Bull Indianapolis GP a couple weeks ago—part of MotoGP, the motorcycle equivalent of Formula One auto racing—unofficial attendance at the Brickyard was, according to media-center scuttlebutt, between 60,000 and 70,000. Not bad if you’re the promoter and you’ve designed your budget properly, but it’s impossible to overstate how wan and tumbleweed-strewn the facility—whose 1,025-acre immensity TV doesn’t even begin to capture—seems when occupied by that number of people. If you’ve been to Busch Gardens ten minutes after the passing of a named tropical storm, you have some frame of reference.

Hayden and Rossi frustrated by Ducati inconsistency during Indianapolis MotoGP practice | Sport Rider Magazine

Hayden and Rossi frustrated by Ducati inconsistency during Indianapolis MotoGP practice | Sport Rider Magazine | Ductalk | Scoop.it
The inconsistency of the Ducati Desmosedici was on vivid display on the first day of practice for Sunday’s Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix. Ducati Marlboro’s Nicky Hayden was third fastest in the morning, and only 0.547 seconds off the pace of leader Casey Stoner (Repsol Honda). But in the afternoon he was down in ninth, just in front of teammate Valentino Rossi, and 1.614 seconds from pace-setter Dani Pedrosa on the Repsol Honda.

In the morning the track conditions were much worse, with dirt on the surface and wet patches. By the time the afternoon session began, the track was dry, the surface warm, and there was much more rubber laid down. How this played into the Ducati’s faults is anyone’s guess, but they clearly had more trouble in FP2.

Ducati.net | Booking Link for the Drury Hotel for IndyGP, 2012 | Ductalk | Scoop.it

IndyGP Ducati Owner "Base Camp" is open for booking and we have the whole hotel reserved again, just for us!

All rooms are $99.99 and include the daily 2 drinks and food happy hour Drury's are famous for.  Those that stayed here last year know how much fun the Ducati Dormatory was, and being just down the street from Ducati Indy was another bonus!

FYI - This year IndyGP runs on the same weekend as Comic Con and the State Fair so rooms are pricey and in short supply.  Once this hotel books out, Ducati.net has no plan for an overflow hotel.

See you at the races.....
