Sylvain Guintoli notches up his third World Superbike Championship win of the season - and the last for the Ducati 1098R - around his home circuit of Magny-Cours. In a year that saw him start the 2012 World Superbike Championship with one team and end it with another, Sylvain Guintoli was thrilled to conclude an eventful season with a poignant victory on home soil at Magny-Cours. Beginning his 2012 campaign as an Effenbert Liberty Ducati rider until his relationship with the infamous team soured eight rounds into the season, Guintoli's new home at PATA Ducati for the final five events nonetheless yielded some of his best results of the year. It was less than a week ago that Sylvain Guintoli was unceremoniously dumped by Team Effenbert Liberty Ducati and accused of ‘poor results’ despite being the top rider for them and securing their first ever win at Assen this year. Well the Frenchman hasn’t sat around moping and has instead been busy getting himself another ride and Italian based PATA Racing team were only too happy to step in. The Frenchman is masterful in the rain... Leicester-based Frenchman Sylvain Guintoli gave his new Pata Ducati team their first ever win in the second World Superbike race at Silverstone today, run in appalling conditions which saw it red-flagged with eight laps to go. Crashes from Tom Sykes, Loris Baz, Carlos Checa and Maxime Berger saw race direction decide there was too much water on the track to continue and the rules mean that although Baz was on his backside when it was stopped, he still takes second place.
