Valentino Rossi says he could have not ridden any faster or put in any extra effort after he ended the Grand Prix of Japan at the Twin Ring Motegi in a lonely and distant seventh. The Italian said finishing a massive 26 seconds behind race winner Dani Pedrosa was the maximum potential his factory Ducati GP12 has, with a lack of rear grip under acceleration remaining the Desmosedici’s biggest weakness. Valentino Rossi remains motivated and determined to transform Ducati’s fortunes in MotoGP, despite conceding he’s little chance to start the new 1000cc era in Qatar on Sunday night with a rostrum. Ducati boss Vittoriano Guareschi says Rossi’s motivation remains high, despite a tough pre-season testing campaign for the nine-times world champion. A radical new GP12 with twin spar aluminium frame aimed at curing a persistent understeer issue has not yet delivered the vast improvement the 33-year-old had hoped. And he finished the last pre-season test in Jerez in sixth position, but he was still almost a second adrift of the fastest pace set by reigning world champion Casey Stoner. But Guareschi said Rossi’s motivation remains strong. “He is not young like when arrived in Yamaha in 2004 but the motivation is very high and I think Valentino with good support can fight for victories. It is important to have a good start and stay close to the top,“ said Guareschi....more Delete the scoop?

Ducati's revolutionary 1199 Panigale superbike is now in full production and MCN was on hand to watch the first bikes being built, marking the start of a new era for the Italian firm. Its new 1200cc V-twin, with an aluminium monocoque chassis and some of the most advanced electronics ever seen on a motorcycle, produces close to 200bhp. At the world launch last weeks MCN's senior road tester was blown away by the bike's performance and sophistication. Ducati is already sitting on a full order book, with most of the 8000 bikes scheduled to be bult in 2012 sold - 300 of those are coming to the UK. Today, machines such as the Triumph Daytona 675R and the MV Agusta F3 have brought a new dimension to middleweight supersports machines. And with this new 848 Evo Corse Ducati is both following in the footsteps of the previous 748 and 749 and promising to move things up a notch further still. In short, the limited edition Evo comes with all the toys normally the preserve of high-end superbikes such as DTC (Ducati’s traction control system) which is identical to that on Ducati’s recently-launched Panigale, and DQS, Ducati’s quick-shifter system. On the downside, the Evo also costs £11,999, which pushes the mid-capacity Ducati into standard superbike territory. Can it cut it on both road and track – as its Corse name suggests?..more
