video | Hankook Tire: The Future of Tyre Design

The high performance tyre of the future will be very different to the tyres we drive on today, if the results of a recent design competition are a guide.

Vicki Smith for Ducati.net's insight:

No Ducati content but we like the way they are thinking.  Extremely futureistic but potentially plausible?

Motorcycle Design: The State We're In

Motorcycle Design: The State We're In | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it
This week we’re kicking off a new occasional series: The Bike EXIF Panel. With each edition, we’ll pitch five questions to leading personalities in the custom scene and motorcycling industry at large.
Today we’re asking our panelists to weigh in on the state of the new wave custom scene and motorcycle
design in general. We’re also looking at the areas where custom and OEM collide, and what that means for the industry.
On the side of the manufacturers are three leading lights from European marques. We have Miguel Galluzzi, Head of the Piaggio Group Advanced Design Centre, father of the Ducati Monster, and designer of the new V7 and California for Moto Guzzi. ThenOla Stenegärd, BMW Motorrad’s Head of Vehicle Design and the man behind the smash hit R nineT. And Diego Sgorbati, the Director of Motorcycle Related Products at Ducati and the man responsible for parts, accessories and brand partnerships.
In the custom corner we have heavy hitters Roland SandsPedro García and Efraon Triana of Café Racer Dreams, and John Ryland of Classified Moto.

So, the questions: Click HERE

Vicki Smith for Ducati.net's insight:

This is a really interesting series with a lot of potential. Absolutely worth a read.

Double Podium!
Team Quotes -
Davide Giugliano (Ducati Superbike Team #34) – 7th, 2nd
“I’m really pleased. After race one I was confident that I could make a strong second race, also if it were dry, inside the top five at least. After a few problems in warm-up this morning, in race 1 we worked out what we needed to do for race 2 and although that race then turned out to be wet, that turned out to be ok too. You always have to be a bit careful in the wet of course, so I took it easy through the opening laps, it was tough because visibility wasn’t great. Then I started to get into a rhythm and pass a couple of riders. In the final stages I eased off a little, as I didn’t want to make any mistakes. I’m really happy to have closed second, and also very pleased for Ducati, my technicians here at the track but also everyone working back in Borgo Panigale, thanks everyone!”

Chaz Davies (Ducati Superbike Team #7) – 18th, 3rd
“It really means a lot to get a podium in the wet, something I’ve not achieved before, not in Superbike nor Supersport, and for Davide to be there too is really an important result for Ducati today. Race 1 wasn’t easy, I didn’t feel that the bike was quite right. Things were beginning to improve though, and got interesting right when the incident with Leon took place. It was simply a racing incident, I was slightly wider than usual and he saw the gap and went for it… We’d planned to make changes for race 2 if it had been dry, but in the end those changes worked in the wet. It was going ok in the early stages, I struggled a little before starting to build my pace. After the Aprilias went down,  I just put my head down and went after the podium. I really enjoyed the final lap, though I was truly on the limit - it also turned out to be the fastest lap of the race. We will definitely go to Laguna Seca in high spirits now.”

Ernesto Marinelli (Ducati Superbike Project Director)
“We’re extremely pleased with this double podium, something we’ve not seen since 2012. I think it’s a nice gift to the Ducatisti who never stopped believing in us, even when things were not going so well. This is another sign of our growth, and crowns the hard work of all of our guys in Ducati, the team and riders who always give their all. This weekend we’ve introduced several components, including new ECU software. All of the material has worked well and both Chaz and Davide are pleased, a sign that the work carried out by our development team and test rider Matteo Baiocco at home is going in the right direction. The result helps and we’ve collated a lot of data that means we will be even more determined when we arrive in Laguna Seca next week.”

Ducati Grandstands and Ducati Island at Laguna Seca WSBK | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it
Share your Ducati Passion in the Ducati Grandstand during the 2014 FIM Superbike World Championship at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca!

Nearly two decades ago, a group of avid Ducatisti rolled into Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the World Superbike Championship and staked their claim on what would later become known to all as Ducati Island. In these humble beginnings, the Island was void of fashion shows, DJs and rock bands, but rich with passionate Ducatista, their motorcycles and great racing.

For 2014, we will honor this great tradition as we return to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with the Tribuna Ducati ticket package. The 3-day weekend experience includes your spot in the Ducati Grandstand, a unique opportunity to ride your Ducati on this legendary track, a guided track walk, a commemorative Ducati gift package, gear check and of course… your parking spot on Ducati Island.

Make sure you ride your Ducati this year as we will be hosting “Ducati Concorso,” a bike show where anyone who has parked on the Island is invited to join in on the fun. The categories for the competition will include the following:

• Best Modified
• Best Monster
• Best Superbike
• Best Road Warrior
• Best Retro
• Passion Award
• Bella Award
• Best in Show

We can’t wait to see you there as we come together to cheer on Davide Giugliano and Chaz Davies in their quest to victory! Forza Ducati!

2015 Ducati Monster 821 | First Ride | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it

They say: “The essential Monster”
We say: “Who needs 1,200cc?”

The mighty Monster is evolving. Earlier this year we pitted the new Monster 1200 against a bright crop of new-for-2014 naked bikes for our July cover story, and it acted more refined and mature than ever. A standard liquid-cooled engine, along with a longer wheelbase and more room for a passenger highlighted the flagship Monster's lean toward sensibility.

Ducati boss: Podiums are sign of continued growth

Ducati boss: Podiums are sign of continued growth | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it

Ernesto Marinelli hails Ducati's first double WSBK podium since 2012 as the 1199 Panigale proves itself as an increasingly competitive package.

Ernesto Marinelli has described Ducati's first double podium in almost two years as a 'gift to the Ducatisti who never stopped believing' as the Italian firm steadily works its way back to prominence.

The most successful manufacturer in WSBK history, the introduction of the new 1199 Panigale – which replaced the ultra-successful 1098/1198 machine – from the start of 2013 has warranted a long and frustrating development process.

This little vintage Ducati will win your heart

About ten years ago I went on a buying spree, and no shopping malls were involved.  At that time a lot of old Ducati memorabilia, electronics, early motorcycles and Cucciolos (the first Ducati “motorcycle” was actually a bicycle with a clip on motor, the design sourced from Siata, an Italian car company).  It was pretty clear that the pipeline for these items was seriously limited, so whenever we came across an item of interest we bought it, or made certain someone like minded (by which I mean, willing to show it to the public on occasion) had a chance to....

Exclusive: Ducati Scrambler in the final version, the first photos

Exclusive: Ducati Scrambler in the final version, the first photos | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it
Here are the first pictures of the new Ducati true, long-awaited news from Borgo Panigale. Ducati Scrambler will be unveiled at WDW, presented to all on sale in the fall and probably at the end of 2014. Motorbike Details of July

The new version of one of the most popular Ducati ever (since the spring of 1968 to that of 1976 were built about 50,000 Scrambler, displacement 250, 350 and 450 cc), on several occasions have come out drawings and photos of strange prototypes that turned inside and outside of the factory in Bologna, motorcycle masked more or less heavily ( click here for the gallery ). Then one morning, in the yard of the factory in Borgo Panigale Ducati workers have found a yellow container that contained a motorcycle , Scrambler: just to give it a look before everyone else, including journalists. So in fact no one, including the general public has yet to see the new Scrambler in the final version. But now, we Motorcycling we can show you some exclusive new images exclusively of the bike almost ready for production (marketed in 2015), just missing the mark on the tank badge . The line is inspired decidedly that of the progenitor and the very wide handlebars promises a relaxed and comfortable driving. Note the saddle the old "logo" of the Bologna factory, to return the original image.Domina yellow (color of the beloved old 450), the wings are reduced to a minimum, the saddle is abundant and promised a good comfort even in two, the discharge is low and short and the lighthouse is round, but with a ring of LEDs around the central halogen bulb. The instrumentation is single element, but fully digital, so it is assumed complete. A modern twist is given by the number plate flush with the rear wheel.

Sergio Robbiano, the heir of Tamburini, dies in a road accident

Sergio Robbiano, the heir of Tamburini, dies in a road accident | Ductalk Ducati News | Scoop.it

Italian motorcycling mourns one of its most appreciated and famous designers, Sergio Robbiano, 48, who lost his life in a fatal collision between a motorcycle and a truck in the municipality of Torriglia in Trebbia.

HEIR - Sergio Robbiano, born in Palermo, but long resident in Genoa, was one of the favorite students of Massimo Tamburini, one of the greatest Italian architects of motion, who passed away recently after a long illness. Robbiano had worked at the CRC, the research center Castiglioni, where they designed the Ducati 916. During that time he had followed the whole project Cagiva Mito Ev 125 and edited the lines of Husqvarna models, as well. He then worked at the Bimota (where he signed the 500 V2 and the DB5) and the manufacturer of AGV helmets.
