So, these were the last days of the ride.
As luck would have it, we arrived at the Capitol building in Jackson on St Patrick's day...so there was green and people everywhere since the parade was about to start a few blocks away. It was such a beautiful day to ride, and yet it was bittersweet knowing I would be saying goodbye to everyone the next day. And yet, from the looks of it I might be seeing some of them again very soon. I've decided to take part in their west coast ride this summer where they will be riding from Seattle to San Diego starting July 13th. I will again be their communications/PR person and I'm really looking forward to riding a lot of the west coast and highway 1 that I've only seen in pictures...so this summer is going to epic! But for now, it's time to change gears again and begin the trek up to Moab, UT where I have some filming work for a few weeks after which we'll be spending a few days in White Sands, NM and then back to home base in Seattle. Whew...may the weather be kind to me these last few weeks!
PS- thanks so much to everyone for the comments or just letting me know that you stopped by. I've really enjoyed sharing this adventure here and it gives me inspiration to post photos and vids, even at the end of a 500 miles day....so,, thank you guys...more photos on the link

Much has been speculated about the alleged Ducati 799 Superbike that surely is being planned in Borgo Panigale this very minute. Connecting the dots with the Italian company’s product roadmap, Ducati surely has a smaller-displacement version of its 1199 Panigale in the works, though what it will be called and what displacement it will use is still the subject of much conjecture. Today Oberdan Bezzi takes us back down that thought process with his Ducati 798 Desmosport R concept.
A supersport-market model, Bezzi’s focus is not with the water-cooled 1,200cc Superquadro motor, but the tried and true DesmoDue air-cooled lump currently found in the Hypermotard and Monster lines. Looking for a €9,000 price point, 100hp power figure, and 365 lbs dry weight, Oberdan Bezzi is striking the same vein that Radical Ducati and NCR have been touching on for the past few years, albeit at different ends of the price spectrum....more

"The start of the championship always gives you the same emotions, like the first day of school."
Valentino Rossi has arrived at Jerez for the final MotoGP test session prior to the season opening race, on April 8th in Qatar. After some mixed messages from Sepang - the first test went very well, the second less so - the next three days will be crucial for understanding the true potential of the GP12, a project that is still relatively new and unrefined.
"The first test was good, but we still need to work a lot on the bike - the Ducati rider said - Our objective is always to enjoy ourselves, have some nice races and finish on the podium. We will have to fight hard though, and it won't be easy."

Want to reduce hotel costs when going on race weekends? Here’s one solution. If it’s good enough for Valentino Rossi..
Yes, there’s slightly more room in here than in your average two-man tent
What’s the most lavish night’s sleep you’ve ever had while away at a race meeting? A Millets tent and a boot for a pillow? Perhaps you’ve even splashed out for a hotel room that ends up being so far from the circuit that you miss half the race trying to fight your way in through the traffic on race day.
Imagine, for a second, how much you’d pay to live in five-star luxury within metres of the grid. A thousand pounds? Five-thousand pounds? How about £650,000? That’s about how much it would cost to get yourself an ‘Articulated Dream’ luxury motorhome, as owned by some geezer called Valentino Rossi. You can specify everything to your exact requirements. So, for example, every plasma screen telly in Rossi’s is exactly 46 inches. We can't think why...

Italy: Government Runs Out Of Money. Can Not Mail Licenses...
You've got to be pretty hard up financially if you can't pay for stamps anymore. Unfortunately, that is what is happening in Italy, where the cash-strapped government has run out of money.
The Ministry of Transportation for the last two months have not sent out driving license renewal stickers, residency stickers, and letters to speeding riders telling them how many license points they have left. And the reason they have not sent these letters????? Because they have no money to pay for postage stamps!...more

The Ducati/Diesel partnership began at the beginning of the 2011 MotoGP Championship, soon after Ducati signed nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi.
But the Italian fashion brand never released any Ducati-issued clothes - until now. Last week, Diesel launched a "Capsule Collection" dedicated to its partnership with Ducati. And to help unveil the line, Ducati and Diesel partnered to create the above special-edition Monster 1100 EVO.
Ducati says: "With Ducati's flagship Monster 1100EVO providing the canvas for the new motorcycle creation, Diesel's founder Renzo Rosso and the Ducati Design Centre guided stylists to a military inspired theme, expressing the core values of the partnership and realizing an Avant-garde choice for connoisseurs of lifestyle motorcycling...more

And so, my week with the Fuller Center for Housing Bicycle Adventure is now complete. It was an amazing time in getting to know people from all over the country and getting to help build a few houses as well. The thurs. of last week was their day off, so that's when we all drove 45 min to Water Valley Mississippi for a Build Day. It was amazing how a little bit of our time and energy for a day will literally change someone's life for years to come...It really makes me think, and on a motorcycle, you have a lot miles and time to think. The 3rd pic above is one of these residents, she's 91, still drives, and has been an active member in caring for the sick and disabled in her own community, a real champion of rural Mississippi....more

Valentino Rossi’s step brother Luca Marini, will be debuting this weekend at Mugello in the CIV’s Moto3 category and his big brother will be sponsoring the team with his VR46 merchandising company
14-year old Luca who won last year’s MiniGP championship will be riding a Honda NSF250R4 in the Italian series and is supported by Honda Italia and the ever present San Carlo (the same snack company that sponsors Fausto Gresini’s MotoGP effort), however Rossi won’t be seeing his little brother’s debut, as he’ll be at Jerez de la Frontera this weekend for the final official pre-season test.

The evolution of the Ducati 1199 Panigale is being revealed today, as the Italian bikemaker has released a photo of the “naked” 1199 Panigale to prove just one thing: that the new design is amazing in the way it saves weight by combining multiple parts into one.
The new superbike is supposedly 10 kg (22 lbs) lighter than before, resulting in a dry weight of 164kg (361.5lb)...more

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday present the final opportunity for the premier class to fine-tune its preseason preparations at Jerez ahead of the 2012 season opener in Qatar less than two weeks later.
For the first time during the 2012 preseason the entire MotoGP field of 21 riders will all share a track together, when they convene at the Jerez circuit in southern Spain for the final test before the campaign gets underway in Qatar less than a fortnight later.
An extremely strong display at the two preceding Sepang tests from reigning World Champion Casey Stoner, who was fastest at both meetings, has signaled the Repsol Honda rider's level going into the new campaign, and both the Australian and his Spanish teammate Dani Pedrosa will aim to continue their preseason form to date.
Likewise the Yamaha Factory Racing pair of Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies have both enjoyed a productive testing program to date, and will hope to continue their progress on board the YZR-M1 with electronics and stability under acceleration the main focus. The duo's 2012 liveries will be unveiled in a presentation on Thursday.
Ducati Team's Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden will also be great areas of interest for all those reading into pre-season form, as the pair seek to further tune the set-ups of their respective Desmosedici GP12 prototypes...more

The AGV Pista is Valentino Rossi's new helmet for 2012. It's due to be unveiled to the world at Jerez on Friday, but we've seen it already, right?
You would think that by AGV paying Valentino Rossi a reported one quarter of a million Euros a year to wear your fine helmets would mean that you would have some control over the rider – though not where he spends his cash. Not complete control obviously, but when you have a spangly new helmet to launch to the world – arguably the biggest news since the AGV GP Tech – you would hope for a bit of discretion.
Alas, Rossi being Rossi and everything he says and does being photographed, Tweeted and reported, trying to keep the lid on the new lid proved to be impossible. Rossi was apparently sent a useable prototype with the understanding that he wouldn't wear it in public. Clearly, that official AGV email must have ended up in the Spam filter of Rossi's email account and he rode at Sepang with the new lid in full view...more

If you’ve never done it, going on a track day seems like a really big deal – a huge right of passage that will give most (honest) riders butterflies, and a nagging fear that you are likely to crash. Next, you realise you’re uninsured on-track, too broken to work, lose your job, wife, kids and eventually you’ll end up in a cardboard box in the Southbank trying to remember what bikes you once owned, through misty eyes brought on by too much cheap lager....more

Peter Koren's Ducati GTS to XR transformation is still a wonder to us at the magazine, and I think that it has to be possibly the favourite bike we've featured so far. In an era when anything old with Ducati written on the tank is being snapped up as pension investments (even the ugly ones), it's brilliant to see that someone went his own way and built something himself, for himself, and came out with something better than the factory ever could....more

Although the Ducati Panigale wont be seen in World superbike trim till 2013, it'll be raced in the British superbike series
The Ducati Panigale has been a massive media success and, even in these recessionary times, early sales are said to be strong. The fact that defending World superbike champion Carlos Checa will still be running the old 1199 in this year's WSB championship has left some people wondering what it will be like on track in superbike trim.
Well, the wait is over. Or almost. There will be four Ducati Panigales in the British superbike championship – three in the Supebike class and one in Supestock 1000. And Ducati is taking things seriously, with Ducati superbike racing guru, former Troy Bayliss crew chief and team manager Ernesto 'Ernie' Marinelli helping with the Moto Rapido bikes (seen with British Ducati tuning legend John Hackett of JHP fame).
Suggestions that Ernie was just doing some shopping in Oxford street and just popped into Brands were discounted. "We had 23 requests for race kit bikes and parts from various teams around the world," explained Marinelli, "and all of that data and feeback will come back to us to help us develop a better bike, so it's been a good start in those terms."...more

The former British 250GP Champion was giving the bike its shakedown today to iron out any problems with the new Motec electronics and to also get his seating position correct before the test moves to Snetterton tomorrow and Smart can put in some meaningful times. Doodson Jentin Ducati's Tom Tunstall has also taken to the track today...more
