Casey Stoner will attend the next MotoGP race set for April 11-13 at Austin. The former World Champion is expected on race-day but he could arrive earlier. It will be the second time, after his retirement, that he visits the paddock, the first time having been last October on occasion of “his” Phillip Island GP, when Carmelo Ezpeleta inducted him as a MotoGP Legend.

They needed a race week-end not ending with gloomy faces in the garage and politically-correct answers in front of the interviews-panel. They needed the disadvantage’s figures starting to drop instead of increasing. In other words they needed a race like the last week Qatar GP. Not a miracle race but a solid start, good to understand that all the efforts done have not been vain. A boost for carry on with the hard work.

One of the main complaints aimed at the last-minute rule changes in MotoGP is that they made it impossible to explain to the casual viewer exactly who is riding what, and why. How many categories are there exactly in MotoGP? Who has more fuel and who doesn’t? And who loses what privileges if they win or podium? To clear up some of the confusion, here is our simple guide to the categories in MotoGP.

The MotoGP race is set for April 11-13 at Circuit of the Americas. To get fans excited about the race, COTA and Ducati teamed up for a "show us your lean" contest.
The Ducati motorcycle is set up at a 64 degree angle, which is what real drivers do on the turns.

Qatar MotoGP: First Day
The night time racing has begun… 45 minutes of Free Practice 1 was halted by a red flag after a crash by Pramac Ducati Yonny Hernandez. Final results for Ducati Corse riders Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Dovizioso who completed sixteen and seventeen laps respectively were thirteenth and fourteenth quickest times, and were separated by just a few hundredths of a second. Teams that tested at the track two weeks ago (Ducati Corse did not test) were up to speed very quickly. Fastest Ducati was Andrea Iannone in 4th.

And here come the players, out of the tunnel and into the stadium; just 15 minutes to go before the opening game of the 2014 World Cup, and the noise and the tension in Rio de Janeiro’s Maracana stadium are almost unbearable…

If racing defines Ducati than MotoGP is the very definition of the future of the brand and well, lets just say the last couple of years have been tough on the team and it’s fans. Now we are on the eve of a new season and if there ever was a year that could be called a fresh start, this is it.
As a long time industry analyst I would also describe myself as an “armchair quarterback” who like many fans of the brand, generally has some opinion on how best to steer the ship. I am especially happy to report that as far as I am concerned, this direction, the one where they line up great people and get them working as a team, is really exciting to see....

On the eve of the start of the 2014 World Championship, the Grand Prix Commission has given birth to some new rules for the MotoGP class with immediate effect and others with effect from 2016.
The most important news is that the GPC, taken note of the “surprising” passage of Ducati to the Open category, has decided to restore the Italian Constructor among the Factory entries, however according them the advantage to compete under the 'Open' specs as regards fuel limit, number of engines and tyres. This also means that Ducati, good Factory that it got to be again, will be allowed to race with its proprietary software.

The MotoGP soup is overcooking in the Dorna’s cauldron but the cook is haphazardly adding new ingredients everyday. A GP Commission meeting regarding the birth of the Factory 2 (class? sub-class? category?) was supposed to have been held on Tuesday this week. The conditional mood is necessary because the meeting has been delayed to maybe this afternoon maybe tomorrow, not sure that either.

If you wanted proof that things are changing at Ducati, you need look no further than the launch of their MotoGP team. In years past, it was an outrageously flamboyant affair, a veritable extravaganza hosted by Philip Morris to showcase their two motor sports projects, the Ducati MotoGP team and the Ferrari Formula One squad. Held at the upmarket Italian ski resort of Madonna di Campiglio, the event even had a proper showbiz name: Wrooom. All that was missing was an exclamation mark.
Ducati's 2014 launch was very different. Held not in Italy, but in Munich and Ingolstadt, on premises owned and operated by Ducati's current owners, Audi.
